Which got me to thinking about what I'd like to hear about. I'm sure that it won't just be a cheerleading session or a couple minute pep talk. It is a cool opportunity to explore the incredible depth and breadth represented in the homeschooling community.
I would love to hear interviews with folks from across the spectrum of homeschooling and learning. I have found over the years that people I've never heard of often say something profound that is helpful to me. Sometimes I go the opposite direction from what they intended, but it is still helpful.
I'd also love to hear interviews with people involved in subjects like study of classics (Victor Davis Hanson), economics (Thomas Sowell), science/nature, language learning, writing etc. People who are lights in their own field and where the field is of interest to homeschoolers.
And how about interviews with legislators to explain the process by which something becomes a law (the I'm Just a Bill song doesn't include much on ammendments which change the nature of the bill).
Or high school aged homeschoolers who are involved with activities that we might not have thought about. A winner of the Hornaday medal in scouting last year was a homeschooler. There are homeschoolers involved in sports, debate, 4H, Civil Air Patrol, volunteer fire/rescue etc. What about homeschoolers who have done foreign exchange trips (and attended school in the host country) or families who have hosted exchange students (who attended the local high school). I just found out about a national honor society for homeschoolers when the local chapter made the news for their service project.
How about discussions of homeschooling with just an only child or with a big family or with disabilities or with an academically gifted child? What about a discussion of different types of math instruction or a profile of a homeschool science fair? Or a debate about the merits of study at home charters vs. independent homeschooling.
I hope all goes well for her and this program.
